We got this book for my son’s 1st birthday. I *thought* a certain friend I will call A gave it to us.

I didn’t like this book when my son was one, but blamed it on his not-so-strong interest in books at the time. As time passed, and he grew to LOVE being read to, I still didn’t like this book because there are VERY few words to it. It’s mostly pictures and you have to talk about the pictures and I just don’t care for that. Part of reading to your child is having them learn to follow along and recognize words, and that just doesn’t happen with this book.

Anyway time passed and “A” and I were at the bookstore together and she happened to see this book on the shelf and said, “I hate this book!” I was like, “Why on earth did you give it to me then?”

Turns out she didn’t. I still don’t know who did.

I would never buy this book for anyone. It annoys me. I want words!

The pictures are kind of cute but this book is a dud in my opinion. I can’t give it just ONE star though because my son does ask for it occasionally, so if he likes it a little, I have to give it a little credit. But all in that, that inch of shelf space it takes up could be put to better use.

We got this as a gift and I was disappointed to see that there is not much of a story. The illustrations are cute, but that’s about it.

A very poor book compared to “Goodnight Moon”. Just mooching off the the “good night” kiddie book market.

I ordered two copies of this book based on all the positive reviews (one as a gift and one for my 9 month old), they are both being sent back. We have a collection of great board books this one is not worthy among them and it is not good enough to be given as a gift. I can’t understand how people rave about this book, the text is boring and unimaginative, the art is not very good and the overall feeling of animals in cages does not make for pleasant dreams ( the animals do end up back in their cages for the night!). There are tons of other great books in this range keep looking… We ordered Time For Bed by Mem Fox and it has light years more character and charm.

For the record I don’t spend my time knocking children’s books. If people are going to pay good money for something they have a right to know peoples opinions.

I admit the gorilla and mouse are kind of cute…but not cute enough for us.

this book has very nice illustrations, but there is hardly any text. my daughter likes to be read to, so this really doesn’t work.

i don’t think it is that funny or clever. seems like it would appeal more to adults who love New Yorker cartoons, and not the actual articles.
