A dictionary is a book that defines the meaning of words and provides a pronunciation. This is not a dictionary as any dictionary I have ever seen. I bought this book because my wife is a lector in our Catholic church and she needs to know how to pronounce biblical words. No where in this “dictionary” does it articulate the pronunciation of words. The book reads like an encyclopedia detailing the history of biblical words including people and places. This dictionary will provide a meaning to these words, but since there is not detail on how to pronounce these difficult words, I guess you just need to keep the meaning of these words to yourself and not speak them in fear of not pronouncing it correctly. What a shame, so much time put into research of this, but the editor didn’t consider that these words would ever be spoken.

I have just received mine but have already found it useful in defining and clarifying certain words that are used in discussions about the faith. I am quickly becoming a fan of Scott Hahn’s books. My only complaint so far is that to my surprise I see there is no definition for the word sanctification. Sanctification should be in there since it is a major Catholic theme.

The book came to us as if I had picked it up from the store myself.
And we are so pleased with the content of this book.
